How to Ship Oil Paintings/Prints/Posters/Paintings

July 19, 2023

How to Ship Oil Paintings/Prints/Posters/Paintings With the ease of selling articles online, today, you may be wondering how to ship: • Oil paintings • Prints • Posters • Paintings You can find companies that will do the entire job for you, from pick-up to delivery. But the cost can be extremely high and once you have added this to the shipping and handling costs of your items. Either your profits will be gone or the cost of the items will be so high that customers will take their business elsewhere. With a little ingenuity, you can safely ship all of your packages cheaply and safely.

Start With the Right Shipping Company

There are shipping companies just waiting to work with you. First, contact the companies either by phone or in person. If you can't get in touch with a "real" person in the first few tries, go elsewhere. If they really care about your business they will have a representative on hand to work with you. If the company is so big they can't be bothered to provide a real person to answer your questions, take your business elsewhere. Have a List of Questions Ready to Ask: • The price of shipping per pound/ounce? • The cost of insurance per $25 increments in value? • Extra costs for fragile products? • Extra costs for exact or estimated delivery dates guaranteed? • Pick-up of packages offered? • Discounts on bulk or large orders? • Any special offers or limits that you need to be aware of? • Does the company offer references? Once you have the answers, you will find it is quite easy to make an informed decision.

Have the Right Packaging Materials on Hand

You can provide them with packaging material recycling and help both businesses save money and resources. Look for the following items in large and small quantities: • Bubble-wrap in all sizes -- you can never have too much of this shipping staple • Boxes - with lids for shipping delicate or expensive items • Boxes - with flaps that can be closed-up and taped • Boxes - that can be cut-down or even turned inside-out and custom folded to unusual sizes. • Packaging tape, packaging tape and more packaging tape -- This is another item you can never have too much of. • Styrofoam peanuts

Packaging Fragile Items

Package it more than once. Start with finding a suitable container that is roughly twice the size as the article. Wrap the item in soft material such as cloth, paper or bubble-wrap. Carefully place it in the box or container with more paper or Styrofoam gently placed around the item. For large items or unusual sizes, this is when using broken-down boxes to create a new size comes in handy. Tape this first container shut. Wrap it thoroughly in bubble-wrap that is at least one inch thick for small items and up to 3 inches thick for larger items. Tape this securely together. Now place the wrapped container in a new container. Add enough Styrofoam peanuts to cushion it on all six sides, close the second container and give it one more wrap of bubble-wrap.

Proper Shipping

If the package is going a long distance or overseas, actually place it in a third container labeled for shipping. If done correctly, the package may seem large, but not heavy enough to send shipping costs over-budget. Wooden crates are the main reason that shipping costs can be astronomical. But they're often totally unnecessary. If you follow these directions, you can easily learn how to ship in a manner that is safe and economical.

4 Reasons Every Law Firm Should Use Courier Services

March 10, 2023

In the legal profession, every minute counts. Deadlines can mean the difference between a case going to court or being dismissed. So, why would you trust your important paperwork to anyone other than a legal document courier? We've come up with a list of four reasons why every law firm should use courier services. The next time you've got important legal documents to send, think about this list before you entrust them to just anyone.

Couriers Keep Records

If you want to know for certain whether a document arrived at its destination, you need a record that the recipient indeed received it. Couriers keep track of every single delivery. They have a record of the person who ordered the delivery, and when they arrive at the recipient's address, they require that he or she sign for the package. There can be no doubt that a document arrived when you've got the person's signature to prove that he or she received it.

Couriers Take the Quickest Route

This probably sounds like a familiar situation: you have a document that needs to be signed by a certain time by a third party, and if he or she doesn't sign it, it could cost your firm big. A courier knows the quickest way to get from your office (point A) to the third party's address (point B). You won't have to worry about him or her getting lost, because couriers know which routes have the most traffic, and which streets to take to get to the destination speedily.

Couriers Offer Rush or Express Service

Many courier firms will provide rush or express services to their clients. That means that you no longer have to worry that the vital paperwork won't be submitted in a timely fashion. Rush or express service is guaranteed, so the courier will do everything possible to make sure that it arrives at the recipient's address by the deadline.

Delivering Packages on Time is Their Job

Courier firms specialize in completing deliveries by a certain time. They're not doing you a favour. It's their job. So, they've got a vested interest in making customers happy. If they don't deliver packages in a timely fashion or if they don't uphold their guarantee for a rush delivery, they'll lose customers and might eventually go out of business. Choosing a legal document courier is the only way you should transmit your files, because you know the company wants to keep your business.

Helping A Kidney Transplant Patient In Their Time Of Need

August 31, 2022

In late August 2022, a Power Link courier customer had an urgent problem to solve. A kidney transplant patient in Labrador City, Labrador needed dialysis medication. Unfortunately, due to inventory shortages, the medication was not available locally. In fact, it was only available in Mississauga, and it wouldn’t even be available in Mississauga for several more days. The customer called Power Link to see if we could help with this 1,916 kilometre delivery. Of course we could! We quickly got one of our drivers lined up and ready to go. Within an hour of the medicine being available, our driver picked it up in Mississauga, and headed to Labrador City. In the evening of the very next day, the medicine arrived at the Labrador West Health Centre in Labrador City, ready to be administered to the patient.  Urgent DeliveryOur customer was very happy, as was the patient & their family.  We were thrilled to be to be of service, helping a vulnerable patient in their time of need. Do you have an emergency shipment that you need help with?  Whether it needs to go a short distance, or across the province, or even across the country & beyond, Power Link is here to help.  Just give us a call or send us an email – it would be our privilege to serve you.

Virtual Employee Recognition Event

March 29, 2022

Power link recently helped McMaster University with a virtual employee recognition event that included a cooking class.  As part of the event, McMaster needed 88 packages containing recipe ingredients delivered to 88 employee residences in Southern Ontario.  recognition eventMcMaster sent us a spreadsheet containing all of the employee names, addresses, and telephone numbers.  We then uploaded this information into our state of the art routing software system.  Less than 1 minute later, we knew exactly how to get the job done in the most efficient way possible.  recognition eventThis included how many kilometers in total we would need to travel, how many routes there would be, how many drivers we would need, and how many hours it would take to deliver the packages assuming normal traffic and weather.  The next day, we sent 4 drivers to the McMaster University campus in Hamilton for 8am to pick up, and all 88 packages were delivered by the end of the day. Do you have a virtual event that you need help with?  If so, send us an email or give us a call at 905-693-1143 we would be happy to help you too.

Urgent Hand Carry Delivery

August 5, 2021

Urgent Hand Carry Delivery - On Friday morning before the August long weekend, many Canadians were looking forward to the end of the day, when their 3 day weekend would get started.  However, that morning Power Link received a call from a customer with an urgent, life or death request:  Someone in St. John, New Brunswick needed a cancer drug as soon as possible – in hours, not days.  Unfortunately, the cancer drug was in a warehouse in Concord, Ontario. Time Sensitive Medicine Urgent Life Saving Medicine Required The Power Link staff went straight in to action and quickly got a Hand Carrier on standby ready to fly the drug to New Brunswick and hand it off to a local courier.  We also needed to book flights, a hotel, and book the courier drivers to help both in Toronto and New Brunswick - fast.  With only a one stop, connecting flight to Fredericton available, taking off in just a few hours, and over 2 hours of combined courier driving to be done before and after the flights, there was a lot of work to do, and not a lot of time to do it.  However, we got the job done.  The drug was delivered to St. John, New Brunswick, 1288 kms away, at 12:02am.  This was roughly 15 hours after receiving the request.  It was very satisfying for us to do our part and help a cancer patient in their time of need. If you ever find yourself in need of an urgent time sensitive hand carry delivery, just give us a call or send us an email.  We would be more than happy to help!

What Is FOB Shipping Point and FOB Destination?

March 19, 2021

Free on Board (FOB) is to make it easier for shippers and carriers to understand who is responsible in the event that goods are damaged during transit. Freight Costs The sales/purchase invoice should indicate when ownership of the goods transfers from the seller to the buyer. The company that owns the goods while they are being transported to the buyer`s place of business pays the transportation charges and is responsible for any damage to the merchandise during transit. In North America, the point where ownership is transferred is called the FOB point and may be expressed as either "FOB destination" or "FOB shipping point." The letters FOB mean "free on board." Free On Board Free On Board FOB shipping point means: Ownership changes from the seller to the purchaser when the goods are placed on the carrier by the seller - the "shipping point." The purchased pays the freight costs and is responsible for damages. FOB destination means: Ownership changes from the seller to the buyer when the goods are delivered by the carrier to the purchaser's place of business - the destination." The seller pays the freight and is responsible for damages. Common Terms of Sale for U.S. Domestic Transactions

Things to Know Before Your First Big Shipment

November 20, 2015

courier services The cost of shipping can make or break your business, whether you’re brick and mortar or online. With the advent of online shopping, brick and mortar stores are forced to find new ways to retain their customers. Shipping products is a big part of that. If your shipping costs are too high, customers are going to go elsewhere, especially if your competitors can offer lower shipping costs. Before your store opens, there are several things you need to take into account to ensure you and your customers get the best possible service.

Research

It's well worth the time to do research before jumping into a shipping plan, believes Sergiy Lishchuk, owner of Skokie, Illinois-based Ukrainochka. Before opening his business dealing in Ukrainian arts and crafts, he researched what successful retailers were doing with their shipping policies. "I looked at Amazon, overstock.com and lots of eBay stores and compared them to see what worked best," he explains. All the major shipping vendors like USPS, FedEx, UPS and DSL publically provide a list of their services and rates on their sites. You should also check sites like www.iship.com and www.InterShipper.com, which ask for information like package size, weight and location information to work out the cheapest way to send packages. Many of these vendors will have representatives that you can arrange to meet with to review their needs and explain options. "Arrange meetings with the reps and find out just what options are available. There may be things you didn't know about that will work well for your business," suggests Ramon Ray, founder of a business and technology consulting firm in New York City named SmallBizTechnology.com.

Who pays for shipping?

Keeping all this in mind, woothemes.com states that “it might be a good idea to offer flat rate shipping or to absorb shipping (or at least part of it) as an expense on your end to keep customers on the path toward conversion.” If you do the right thing by your customers and keep your costs low, you will build a loyal customer base. "In this competitive environment where there's very little customer loyalty, things like shipping matters," concludes small-business consultant Steve Strauss. "Eat the shipping. It's a small cost to you, and customers will respond." Weigh up your options before deciding, taking your customer base and reach into account. If you have international customers, it may not be feasible to offer a flat-rate or take the financial hit of paying for shipping yourself. Some of your customers will be more forgiving than others, so think carefully before embarking on either course.
